Game of Thrones Cast Confirms One Off-Screen Death You Didn’t See in the Finale
by Sydney Bucksbaum and Kristin Dos Santos Tue., Jul. 14, 2015 3:36 PM PDT
Let\'s all take a break from our national collective mourning of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) to talk about the other major
character who bit the dust in the epic season five finale: Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane).
Comic-Con panel this weekend and talking with the entire cast of HBO\'s fantasy drama, we can now confirm that even though we didn\'t see Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie) kill Stannis onscreen during the finale, she kept her promise to get revenge on him.
"I can\'t offer you any insight whatsoever [why his death wasn\'t shown onscreen] because I don\'t write the show and I don\'t direct the show…yet!," Christie tells E! News with a laugh. "No, but how could you ever doubt Brienne? What did you think I was doing, giving him a haircut?"
Click play on our exclusive video above to see what else Christie had to say about Brienne...and her suggestion on how Brienne can bring back Jon Snow is literally the greatest thing we\'ve ever heard. Hey George R. R. Martin, are you taking requests?!
MORE: All the theories on why Jon Snow isn\'t actually gone for good
Okay, now we can go back to freaking out about Jon Snow\'s death. Because we\'re really not okay with the cast telling us over and over again that he\'s really dead. We refuse to believe it.
When we asked Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre, if the Red Woman will bring Jon back to life now that she\'s arrived at Castle Black the very same night he was stabbed by his fellow Night\'s Watchmen, she did not give us much hope. In fact, she literally said, "Sorry to shatter your dreams..." Oof.
"Why would I be the person to bring him back?" van Houten tells E! News. "I\'ve never seen my character do anything like that. I don\'t know, I don\'t know what kind of powers she has but we\'ll see. I haven\'t read the scripts yet, so…I really don\'t know. She has magical powers but I think that the people who can actually bring people back to life are people that we\'ve seen in season three so I\'m not sure if I could even do that, to be honest."
Press play on our exclusive video above to see what else van Houten revealed about Melisandre and more!
The next biggest cliffhanger after Jon Snow\'s "death" (note those quotation marks, people) was Sansa (Sophie Turner) and Theon/Reek\'s (Alfie Allen) big leap off the castle wall to freedom…or death, depending on whatever is below them!
"There could be a fireman holding a tarp, there could be a large mountain of beautiful, powdery snow that could help, there could also be death!" Allen tells E! News. "That could also be something that could happen. There could be broken limbs, there could be a number of things. There could be a fresh set of clothes waiting for them, who knows?"
And Allen\'s suggestion that the writers should somehow make Theon/Reek\'s storyline even darker next season is making us nervous. How could that even be possible?! Press play on our exclusive video above to see what else Allen said about Theon/Reek!
And check out our exclusive videos below to get even more scoop from the rest of the
cast as we settle in for the long wait until season six.
